Crofton Seaside InnDay-Trip Guide

Places

Walk from the inn: Crofton

Everything here is an easy walk. Crofton was laid out in 1902 as a smelter town for the Mount Sicker copper mines; the grid of streets, the wharf and the Old School all date from that first decade.

Outdoors

Crofton Community Seawalk

A scenic waterfront path right in town, from the ferry terminal along Osborne Bay. An easy evening stroll.

Crofton Beach Park

The closest beach to the inn, a short walk via the Seawalk. Views across to Salt Spring Island; the sand darkens toward the water's edge, a remnant of the old copper smelter. Good for sunsets and low-tide beachcombing.

Crofton Harbour

The public wharf at the foot of town, with floating docks and visitor berths. Worth a look to watch the marine traffic in Osborne Bay. Crabbing off the dock needs a tidal-waters licence (see Fishing & Crabbing).

PaddlePoint Kayak & Paddleboard Rental

A self-serve rental station on the waterfront at Osborne Bay Resort: scan, unlock the gear and go. Each rental includes a PFD, whistle and safety kit, so you don't need your own boat for a sheltered paddle.

Bring your own kayak

Walk your boat to the Crofton boat launch and paddle the sheltered water toward the Shoal Islands and the Salt Spring shore. See Kayaking & Paddling for routes.

Watch for orcas

Crofton's waterfront and the Salt Spring crossing see occasional orca and humpback sightings. Keep an eye on the water from the Seawalk or the ferry deck, especially in summer and early fall.

Sights & culture

Crofton Old School Museum

A one-room schoolhouse (1905–1948) near the ferry terminal, with mining and pioneer artefacts and photographs. Open seasonally in summer. A quick, charming stop.

Movies in the Park

A summer tradition: free outdoor films on Saturday nights at the Old School field by the ferry. Films start at dusk, about 9:30 pm; bring a chair and arrive early. Weather dependent.

Food & drink

Kalisi Cafe

A friendly neighbourhood café on Joan Avenue: coffee, baked goods and casual lunch in a cosy room.

Third Wave Coffee Company

A waterfront café known for craft coffee, local food and gifts, with an ocean-view patio minutes from the inn.

The Brass Bell Pub

A short walk from the inn, with good food and drink at a fair price. Locals are known to say hello.
